WHY CHOOSE NIT?

Walking through the vibrant yet calm streets of Westlands, you will find the Nairobi
Institute of Technology, located along Westlands Road. Surrounded by trees and
striking modern buildings, it is the kind of place where you can easily imagine spending
your days learning, creating and growing.

We believe our story is best told by those who experience it every day. Cecil Osodo, who
joined in September 2025, shared why he chose the institute. “Choosing NIT was an
easy decision for me because of its strong reputation for practical industry relevant
training. I chose to pursue a Diploma in Architectural Technology (CDACC) because I
am passionate about design and creating spaces that inspire people. What I love most is
that NIT offers more than academics, it is a place for growth, networking and preparing
us to become leaders in our fields. I am proud to be part of a school that values
excellence, discipline and creativity.”

Stories like Cecil’s highlight why NIT is more than just a student-friendly environment;
it is where ideas come alive. As a government-accredited institution recognized by
TVETA CDACC and NITA, NIT is committed to offering courses designed to address
evolving market needs while nurturing creativity and innovation. From Architecture,
Animation and Digital Media, Fashion Design, Interior Design, Graphic Design,
Quantity Surveying and Painting to Plumbing, and Masonry, students have the
opportunity to build real world skills. Additionally, NIT scholarships support students,
ensuring that financial barriers do not stop them from pursuing their dreams.

NIT Academic Registrar, Mr. Geoffrey Ruto explains that what makes NIT unique is
how the students not only gain academic qualifications but also transition into
becoming exceptional young professionals “What makes NIT students stand out is the
hands-on learning experience they receive throughout their course. Our skill-based
curriculum equips them with strong technical know-how enabling them to step
confidently into professional office set-ups. Many of our graduates go on to work with
renowned institutions such as the Ministry of Public Works and the Property Show
where they are consistently praised for their dedication, competence and character.”

With Kenya having one of the highest populations of young people graduating from high
schools, many seek to launch purposeful and meaningful careers. One of the ways we
achieve this is through modularized courses, an approach that allows students to gain
specific skills and competencies one module at a time, with each module assessed and
certified individually.

To see how this works in practice, we spoke to one of our alumni, Benjamin Osodo, who
is now part of the NIT family as our Graphic Design Executive. He shared how NIT’s
training and modular courses prepared him for the job market, “As an alumnus of NIT
with a Diploma in Animation and Digital Media, the modular training opened my eyes
to exciting career paths. My passion for drawing and animation was nurtured through
industry events and learning opportunities organized by the school. I am grateful to NIT
for helping me grow into a versatile animator and designer and I am proud to now
contribute to the same community that shaped my career.”

Benjamin’s journey is just one example of how NIT prepares students for future success.

town; it is an inspiring community. Whether you dream of designing, building, creating,
or innovating, this is where your journey begins. Join us at NIT where we may grow and
thrive together.

N.I.T. Celebrates Successful PoE Verification in First-Ever Competency-Based Training

On July 17, 2025, the Nairobi Institute of Technology (N.I.T.) proudly completed its first Portfolio of Evidence (PoE) Verification Exercise, marking a significant achievement in our journey toward delivering competency-based, industry-ready education.

N.I.T,s First Competency-Based Training with Successful PoE Verification

This milestone reflects our commitment to ensuring that learners are not only equipped with theoretical knowledge but also demonstrate practical mastery in their chosen fields. Under the TVET CDACC guidelines, PoE verification is a crucial step in national certification and job readiness.

But what is a PoE?

  • A Portfolio of Evidence is a structured compilation of a learner’s work that showcases their skills and competencies. At N.I.T., PoEs include:
  • Internal and continuous assessments.
  • Hands-on projects like 3D models, animated videos, and blueprint plans
Drafting work, garments, architecture plans, and costing documents
  • Verified marksheets and trainer feedback

These portfolios are tailored to each discipline:

  • Graphic & Digital Design: Animations, storyboards, branding, and layout designs
  • Fashion Design: Garments, pattern drafts, and fashion collections
  • Interior Design: Mood boards, spatial plans, and interior layouts
  • Architecture: CAD files, technical drawings, and structural models
  • Quantity Surveying: Site reports, measurements, and cost estimates

Our programs are supported by expert trainers and state-of-the-art facilities, ensuring learners receive the best possible education. The CDACC team has now completed a thorough inspection of both digital and physical PoE submissions, validating our internal processes and learner outcomes.

Since 1997, N.I.T. has been a leader in practical, hands-on education. Our nationally accredited diploma and certificate programs continue to evolve, integrating value-added units that prepare students for dynamic, market-driven careers.

YOUR SELF CARE RESET GUIDE BY NIT

Hello, cool camper, @NIT family is here to give some weekend tips and vibes.

To do….Take a break and refresh your mind.

We know College life can seem like a relentless roller coaster. With lectures, assignments, exams, and a social life, there is very little time for any self-care. Weekends, meant for winding down, can often become another opportunity to catch up on assignments or surf the internet aimlessly.

But here is the thing: a mental reset is essential. Stress takes a toll anyway. A conscious effort to disconnect, power down, and reset is critical to self-care.

What are your options for this? We got you!

1. Unplug from Social Media – Take a digital detox for a few hours.

2. Move Your Body – Go for a walk, stretch this can help reduce anxiety and elevate your mood. It’s all about releasing that built-up tension in your body.

3. Do Something You Love – Read, draw, play music, or binge-watch your favorite show guilt-free.

4. Spend Time with Friends or Family (Without Pressure)- Sometimes the best way to unwind is to connect with those who make you laugh, understand you, and support you. Spending quality time with friends or family can provide a much-needed escape from academic stress.

5. Prioritize Sleep – Allow yourself to rest deeply. Sleep is more than just resting; it’s essential for your body’s recovery, mood regulation, and brain function.

So, take a deep breath, set aside those textbooks for a bit, and focus on what makes you feel good. Whether it’s moving your body, spending time with friends, or simply sleeping in a little longer, make sure to take time to unwind. Remember, stress-free weekends = better focus next week. 💪✨YOU deserve it!
