Early this month, The Nairobi Institute of Technology welcomed a high-level delegation from the Defence Forces Technical College (DEFTEC) and the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) for a significant benchmarking exercise. Marking yet another milestone in NIT’s history of collaborative excellence, this visit reaffirmed NIT’s position as a leader and among the best TVET colleges in Kenya.
The delegation led by Commandant A.O. Aloka and Col. Catherine Kipngok comprised of among others: Lieutenant Colonel Lilian Wanjiru, Major Arvince Ogendi, Major Grace Dieka, Major Joseph Githuku and Major David Musyoka. The team sought to understand NIT’S successful operation model, curriculum and how NIT churns out market-ready graduates every year.
Speaking during the exercise, Commandant A.O. Aloka explicitly stated that NIT was one of the only three TVET institutions chosen for the benchmarking exercise. He also noted our proven track record of producing quality, skilled graduates ready for the market. The commandant also commended NIT for the continued support and collaboration with DEFTEC emphasizing the impact the collaboration has had on the industry.
During the visit, NIT representatives shared insights into the top-tier skills empowerment programs, particularly highlighting their highly sought Architecture courses, Interior Design, fashion design, animation and digital media. They also noted how their artisan courses in painting, masonry and plumbing are answering to the need for skilled labour in the market. The discussion fostered a rich exchange of ideas on the future of technical education in Kenya.
This visit rubberstamps NIT’s role as a leader in the colleges space in Kenya and how it’s shaping the landscape of TVETs in Kenya. NIT remains committed to the betterment of TVETs in Kenya welcoming other colleges that might need to exchange or borrow insights to advance the skills development and contribute to national growth.
