The Nairobi Instituteof Technology (NIT)had the honour of hosting a courtesycall from the NIBS Technical College leadership. The visit saw the NIBS CEO and DirectorMr Antony M. Wanyoike engage in fruitful discussions with NIT’s director Wairimu Keriri, Principal Mr. Nicholas Muriithi and Academic Registrar Mr. Geoffrey Ruto. This high-level meetingunderscored a shared commitment to advancing the quality of educationin Kenya, fostering collaborations and propelling the TVET sector forward.
Thediscussion between the two institutions centred ongrowth and the relevance of technical education in Kenya. The improvement of education quality in Kenya was at the forefront. The both institutionsrecognized the importance of equipping students with skills that are both current and future proof meeting the needs of differentindustries. This includes involvingup to date technologies ensuring graduates are highly competentin the job space.
The leaders also explored fosteringrobust collaborations. They discussed ways in which the two institutionscan worktogether and exchangeknowledge. Such partnerships are important to ensure an environment wherebest practices can be exchanged. By working together, NIT and NIBS aim to broaden the scope of opportunitiesfor learningand enhancing the overall student experience.
The conversation furtheremphasized the need to put in effort to improve the TVET space in Kenya. With the Kenyan government’s target of trainingtwo million TVET trainees by 2026, NIT, NIBS and otherTVET institutions play a crucialrole in achieving thisobjective. The leaders discussed how toadvocate for increase in investment in TVET, improve the perception of technical careersand ensuring that TVET programsdirectly answer to industry needs.
